Dr. Richard Brummett – Chairman, PPO USA Credentials Committee

Dr. Brummett, a retired Family Physician, is a native Kansan, a graduate of the University Of Kansas School Of Medicine and has practiced in Kansas and Missouri. He has been medical director for several managed health care organizations and a faculty member at the University Of Kansas School Of Medicine. Dr. Brummett has served in leadership positions in the Kansas and the American Academies of Family Physicians. He is licensed in Kansas and Missouri and is a Diplomat of the American Board of Family Practice.
 
Dr. Copening graduated from the University of Kansas School of Medicine in 1969. He began his private practice in Family Medicine in Great Bend, Kansas. Along with Being a Family Practitioner on several different active medical staffs, Dr. Copening has also held the titles of Medical Director and Director of Employee Health. Dr. Copening’s special interests include Occupational Medicine and serving as the FAA’s Aviation Medical Examiner. Dr. Copening is currently licensed in Kansas and Missouri and is a diplomat in the American Board of Family Practice.
 
Dr. Lauer, a retired Internal Medicine Physician, is an Ohio native who graduated from the St. Louis University School of Medicine in 1956. Dr. Lauer retired January 1, 2000. He is board certified in Internal Medicine as well as being a Fellow of the American College of Physicians.
 
Dr. VanWyngarden is a native Iowan who graduated from the Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine in Chicago in 1989. He continued his specialty training in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania at the Podiatry Hospital of Pittsburgh from 1989-1991. Dr. VanWyngarden Joined Podiatry Associates in 1995 where he continues his Kansas City-area private practice. He is currently board certified with the American Board of Podiatric Surgery as well as being a Fellow of the American College Foot and Ankle Surgeons.
 
Dr. James is a Board Certified General Surgeon practicing in the Independence-Blue Springs-Lee’s Summit, Missouri, area. Dr. James graduated from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and University Hospital at Stony Brook, New York. His current practice includes both General and Trauma surgery.
 
Dr. Greenspan is a transplanted New Yorker. He went to medical school at the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine and trained in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Truman Medical Center in Kansas City. Dr. Greenspan was in private practice in eastern Jackson County, Missouri for thirteen and ˝ years prior to becoming the Associate Chairman of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the Assistant Professor at the University of Missouri Kansas City School of Medicine. Dr. Greenspan also serves as the Director of the Obstetrical and Gynecological consultation service at Truman Medical Center – Lakewood Campus. Currently, he is certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
 
Dr. Syrtiller M. Kabat, Ph.D. graduated from the Wright Institute Graduate School of Psychology in Berkeley, CA. She has held numerous positions in the capacity of Professor and is a certified Cognitive Behavioral Therapist. She is a licensed Marriage, Family, Child Therapist, Professional Counselor and Life Coach who currently has a private practice in Lee's Summit, MO where she serves on various community boards.
 
Dr. Herbert Dempsey graduated from Medical School at the University of Missouri in Columbia, MO, completed his Internship at Wesley Hospital in Wichita Kansas and completed a Fellowship with the American Academy of Family Practitioners. He is a member of the American Medical Association, the Missouri State Medical Society, the Metropolitan Medical Society and the American Association of Family Practitioners. He currently has a private practice in Lee's Summit, MO where he has practiced for the last thirty-seven years.
 
Eugene Fibuch, MD is Professor and Chairman of the Department of Anesthesiology at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine and is a former Vice President and Medical Director for Quality for the Saint Luke’s Health System. Dr. Fibuch received his undergraduate training at the University of Minnesota and his M.D. degree from Creighton University School of Medicine in Omaha Nebraska. He completed his residency and fellowship training in Anesthesiology at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester Minnesota. After completing two years of active duty in the Navy as a Lieutenant Commander, he joined the medical staff at Saint Luke's Hospital in Kansas City where he has held a number of positions including the Medical Directorship of the pulmonary function, blood gas and sleep disorders laboratory, the Medical Directorship of the Pain Management Center, and the Medical Directorship of the Ambulatory Surgery Center. In addition, he has served as the Program Director for the Anesthesiology residency program and Chairman of the Department of Anesthesiology at the UMKC School of Medicine. He has served on numerous committees, both internal and external, including his past role of 23 years as a senior examiner for the American Board of Anesthesiology. He has been actively involved in the quality program at Saint Luke’s Hospital/Health System for the last twenty years, and has served as a state examiner for the Missouri Quality Award. In 2003 he helped Saint Luke’s Hospital achieve the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award and the Health System’s 2006 Missouri Quality Award. Dr. Fibuch is Board certified in Anesthesiology, Critical Care Medicine, and Pain Management and certified in healthcare quality management, project management, lean production methodology and six sigma performance.
